In anticipation of the Ice Hockey World Championships taking place in May in Zurich and Fribourg, SBB will expand their service. Additional trains are planned to assist fans returning home after key matches, including those extending into overtime.
During ten evenings covering Switzerland’s national team games and elimination rounds (quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final), extra train services from Zurich Altstetten to Lausanne have been arranged by SBB. Stops include Aarau, Olten (SO), Bern, Fribourg, Romont (FR), and Palézieux (VD), according to a press release. In case matches are extended due to overtime or penalty shootouts, the trains will wait for them to conclude before departing. Updates on any schedule changes will be provided directly at the venue and via the SBB app. With a valid match ticket, fans also gain free access to public transport on game days within the ZVV (Zurich) and Frimobil (Fribourg) zones.
